The St. Louis Theatre Wall

Dramatic License Productions–the first professional theatre and cabaret production company west of 270– is opening Dramatic License Theatre at Chesterfield Mall in Jan. 2010. We’re currently in the build out phase.

Although we will be issuing a news release about this soon, we wanted to issue an alert to our listserve friends FIRST!

One of our main goals is to further enlighten west county residents about ALL of the wonderful professional theatre companies consistently presenting engaging works from west to east in our city.

We thought of doing the usual display of brochures…BORING!

Instead-why not dedicate a WALL to professional theatre in St. Louis and make it accessible to anyone even when we’re NOT in production?

To that end, we plan to frame out an entire theatre lobby wall (to appear as a picture frame) and feature individual 2′x2′ artistic depictions of each St. Louis professional theatre company inside the “frame.”

The as yet untitled, “St. Louis Theatre Wall layout will be facilitated by a St. Louis artist.

Here’s where you come in…

We are asking YOU to collaborate as a community and engage in this work as an artist.

For theatre owners: We invite you to depict your theatre company in a 2′x2′ ready-to-hang format using any stationary, non-electronic art medium.

For local actors, designers, directors, theatre lovers: We invite you to submit quotes about the St. Louis professional theatre scene, a favorite show, etc. which will be placed in and around “the frame.” Please include your name and title (actor, director, designer, theatre lover, etc.) along with your quote.

Don’t be left out! We would love to see ALL professional companies and local theatre professionals represented in this dedication to local theatre companies!

We hope you won’t miss this wonderful opportunity to artistically publicize your company in this first-of-its-kind artwork!

Criteria:

*Deadline for submissions is Dec. 14.

Submit in person between the hours of 11a-1p to:

Chesterfield Mall
(Access mall entrance next to Houlihans)

*Submissions must be no larger than 2′x2′ and visibly include the name of the theatre company somewhere in the piece

*The submission must creatively depict your company or quote in whatever non-electronic art medium you choose

*All submissions must be mounted for hanging and include appropriate hardware

*All submissions must include artist/creator’s name and contact info on or attached to the back

*Base wall color will be eggplant purple but submissions may include any color you choose

Examples might include but are not limited to:

*A photo montage from one of your theatre seasons

*company logo artistically presented

*a prop, small set piece, collected costume or backdrop remnants

*a series of quotes from fave playwrights

*a piece of art, painting or sketch from a show or other which is indicative of your company

*ticket stubs or programs from season artistically displayed

ETC.!!! The possibilities are endless!

Sitting on floor in front of the wall on easle will be the Kevin Kline Awards poster listing shows for that month, so we wouldn’t use the wall for seasonal ads but rather, to expose audiences to the fact that there is much GREAT THEATRE HAPPENING IN ST. LOUIS!

We’re very excited to see what our creative community might come up with.

**We do apologize that there simply isn’t room to depict all of the fine St. Louis community theatres as well, so we’re accepting submissions from professional companies only at this time.
